News: --------------------------------------------- December 2006 In December I will be on tour with Jan Delay supporting Christina Aguilera in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. After that we will be playing the last two gigs of this year in Zürich and Berlin. And in the beginning of December I recorded a song with the swedish producer Zank in Hamburg for the band Stanfour. Since everybody liked what we did we'll be back in the Studio in Stockholm in the end of January to record six more songs. NEW: a drumsolo filmed at a club gig in Hamburg last month -> Media --------------------------------------------- November 2006 Some calls really come in late...especially for studiowork. So I will be going to Paris for a recording session tomorrow (!!). It is great to be working there but unfortunately I cannot visit any of my friends because it's a "take the first plane to Paris and the last back" situation. Reason being: I am doing a clinic (my first for Sonor Drums) the next day...so I hope I am not going to be too tired... After that (and a looooooooong sleep) Mark Smith and I are going to continue working on a CD that we are producing together. We have already recorded drums & bass for that in September. --------------------------------------------- October 2006 Latest news for October: I'm a proud Meinl Endorsee from now on. I tested the cymbals and their percussion products on the Jan Delay Tour and I am very, very happy with the sound! I will be recording an album in Hamburg with Zascha Moktan who has been on tour in the US for three months together with Alicia Keys. Last year I recorded a CD with Dacia & The WMD which just came out. It was a great experience recording this rock(!!) CD. The guys wanted me to really hit hard --I had to wear gloves for the first time in my life--. It was worth it, the sound is great. Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead sang one song and Ace from Skunk Anansie was the producer (and a very nice guy). Four more gigs with Jan D. in October. The other gigs were great, I really enjoy playing in that band. The next gigs with Jan are going to be in December. --------------------------------------------- September 2006 Apart from going on a nearly sold out tour with Jan Delay soon I am happy that I can play a gig with Lychee Lassi in Berlin on Sept., 15th. This date fits perfectly in my schedule. While most of the time you get 3 offers to do shows on one date and the two weeks before that you have a lot of free time :) And shortly before the tour actually starts I am going to produce a really talented singer called Leon together with one of my favorite bass players by the name of Mark Smith. --------------------------------------------- Latest News for August: From now I'll be playing Sonor-Drums exclusivly. Jan Delay's CD is number one in the German charts. --------------------------------------------- August 2006 In August I play three festival gigs with Jan Delay. Only three but very good ones. We are all really pleased how well everything goes!! And I have the pleasure to play a concert with Seeed which is unfortunately not open for the public. So I have been asked to take the date off of my homepage. So it's not there anymore :) There's one other band that I'll be playing with in August: The super hot rock act Ostkreutz --> Taubertal OpenAir. From time to time I like to teach which is fun but only if the students love what they do. At the Popkurs this is the case, so that's great. By the way: This is Jan Delay's new video: NEW: Media --------------------------------------------- July 2006 NEW: myspace.com/jostnickel In July I'll play different festivals with Jan Delay, Mousse T. and Ostkreutz. In Austria I'll be playing with Mousse T. and Jan Delay on the same day which doesn't happen very often because normally I can only do one gig or the other...so that's kind of nice. And there were some changes in Mousse T.'s band: Peter Hinderthür, our bassplayer and musical director, left the band and for him came Raoul Walton on bass and I am musical director now. And: Jan Delay's new video "Klar" is running on heavy rotation on MTV. NEW: Discography --------------------------------------------- June 2006 ...and some additional news for June: I had the opportunity to rehearse with Jan Delay's new band and it really clicked. So I was offered to do a lot of gigs and I didn't refuse :) --------------------------------------------- June 2006 The month of June starts with one of the biggest rock festivals worldwide. I'll play with Ostkreutz at Rock am Ring on the 3rd of June. We'll be the late night special and we're really looking forward to that. Immediately after that we are going to rehearse Mousse T.'s new live show. Since he never sings in his own band we have the chance to play with 4 different fine singers: They are Andrew Roachford, Emma Lanford, James Kakande and for the first time Omar "There's nothing like this". After that I will be co-producing and recording drums for a Newcomer for Wea-Records in Hamburg. Another project that could be really interesting is being musical director and drummer for Marla Glen. We'll be rehearsing and playing our first gig. And finally I am going to play a gig with Nils Gessinger. It's his record release gig and should be fun. I played a couple of tunes on the CD but Vinnie Colaiuta played most of it (and of course sounded great). --------------------------------------------- May 2006 Starting to play with Mousse T. again. The last gig we played was in December...and there's no time for a rehearsal. And I will be playing four shows with Ostkreutz. We are supporting "Dir En Grey" from Japan for two gigs. Plus I am going to Africa (Algeria) to play with Lychee Lassi from Berlin. We will play some other shows in Germany as well. And last but not least my favourite gig around the corner: Nils Gessinger Band in Hamburg. --------------------------------------------- April 2006 ...the call came on friday and it had to be done yesterday...a friend of mine, producer Nicolas Neidhardt from Paris, called me for a session in Paris which I couldn't do. So we spoke on the phone and then he decided for various reasons to come to Hamburg and recorded the track here. So I set everything up in Hamburg; called the musicians, talked to the string arranger, booked the studio. We finally recorded drums, bass, guitars and the string section one day after the call and it sounded very good...the record company felt the same way...which is not a bad thing :) What I really enjoy doing is of course playing the drums...so far nothing new. What I enjoy most is creating new music as oposed to playing grooves and feels that have been already made up by somebody else -- which is okay, too of course, since I am still playing drums ;-). So I am very glad that I get the opportunity to work and record with three different artists in the month of April. Apart from playing drums I will be producing or co-producing two of the singers. So I can tell the drummer what to play...... And I will be playing some live gigs with Ostkreutz from Berlin in Berlin and Cologne and with Nils Gessinger in Hamburg. I think two bands couldn't possibly be more different from each other that these two. I'd say Ostkreutz are ROCK and Nils Gessinger is LA type fusion. So with Ostkreutz I couldn't play less and with Nils it is really okay to show off. Very good combination. --------------------------------------------- March 2006 In March I play different gigs in Hamburg. The first one is a show with Ostkreutz from Berlin -- GREAT Band. (I must say). And other shows are:Nils Gessinger and Two Remarks who will promote their new CD that I recorded last year. And I will be quite busy teaching at the Popkurs in Hamburg which is always very inspiring because the students are so good. --------------------------------------------- February 2006 I am currently working on three different CDs: The first one is Nils Gessinger's new release. We will record the last four tracks of his upcoming album. The other songs have already been recorded in LA last year. Vinnie Colaiuta really did a great job ;-) ... and I am proud to be part of this. The other project is a guitar trio with Richard S. on guitar and my old Matalex Bandmate Arnd Geise on bass. And I will co-produce Nora Noel's first release. And I am happy to have my own signature drumstick made by Ice Stix from Germany. --------------------------------------------- January 2006 This doesn't really belong in the January news...anyway...I had the opportunity to record Marla Glen's new single on Dec., 30th in Hamburg. This was again a "We need this done yesterday" situation. But that was fine with me. And it came out great. I will play a show just around the corner from where I live in Hamburg with Nils Gessinger. Very comfortable and it's always fun to play his music. I will be recording a CD with a great singer from Frankfurt. Her name is Yasmina and she can sing!! And I am going to Stuttgart where Ostkreutz from Berlin are recording their debut CD.
